How to Prepare for Family Reunion Photoshoot

Families are scattered across the country and even around the globe, but there are places that act like magnets, pulling them together. One such place is the state of Florida – a paradisiacal corner in the southeastern United States, known for its beaches, incredible climate, and rich cultural heritage. Florida has become a sought-after destination for family reunions, attracting people from all corners of the earth with its uniqueness and charm. If you’ve planned a family reunion here, it makes sense to hire a professional photographer to capture stunning family photos that will preserve your emotions and memories for many years to come! And our Sunrise Photo Studio will certainly delight you with beautiful family portraits. Here are some tips to prepare for your photoshoot.

Choosing the right attire

Harmoniously chosen clothing serves as a key to creating an attractive portrait. It’s recommended to adhere to one color palette for all the clothing: all shades should either be warm (brown, orange, rust tones and others), or cool (blue, gray, black and so on). There’s no need for everyone to dress the same, but the clothes should harmonize with each other.

Avoid clothing with bright prints and patterns, as well as logos and cartoon characters, as they can distract from the overall portrait picture. To create a slim impression, remember that dark clothing tends to emphasize the face and make the figure appear more slender. Exposed skin can visually enlarge body areas.

If small children are participating in the photoshoot, make sure their clothes are comfortable! If a child feels uncomfortable in the chosen outfit, it might reflect on their facial expression, and will certainly be noticeable in the pictures.

Choose the “right” photographer

With a multitude of talented photographers, how do you make the right choice?

Firstly, familiarize yourself with the photographer’s website and make sure you like their portfolio. Does the style meet your taste? Do you like the composition? Do the color palette and lighting correspond to your preferences? Do you feel a connection with the people portrayed in the pictures?

Secondly, make sure the photographer offers the services you want to purchase. Not every professional offers wall canvas portraits or sells digital files.

Thirdly, make sure you have a good understanding of the photographer’s pricing policy. Is there a fee for the photoshoot itself? Does the session cost include sets of prints or digital files? Do the product prices fit within your budget?

Fourthly, clarify with the photographer about the possibility of retouching portraits. Software like Photoshop is great for correcting skin imperfections, removing unnecessary background elements.

Finally, make sure you understand the process of checking and placing orders. Not every photographer offers personal consultations for image selection or online order opportunities.

Mobilize all participants!

At family reunions, there are often those who refuse to participate in the photoshoot. If it’s a child, you can motivate them with a visit to places like Sweet Frog, Duck Donuts or McDonald’s.

If it’s an adult, promise them that the photoshoot will be quick and there’s no need to pose individually – the main thing is to be part of the big family portrait and enjoy the process. Remind them that this will be a valuable gift for the elder generation of the family and in the future, the portrait could become a family artifact.
